Abraham NathansonAbraham NathansonBonnet Shores, RI — Abraham Nathanson, creator of the game Bananagrams, passed away at the age of 80, just four years after he founded the company. Nathanson served as a member of the U. S. Army, then as a commercial and jewelry designer, photographer and children's book author and illustrator before founding Bananagrams at the age of 76 with the help of  daughter Rena and her children Aaron and Ava. In 2009 Bananagrams won the "Game of the Year" award from the Toy Industry Association.

Nathanson died at his home at Bonnet Shores surrounded by his family. He is survived by his three children, Brenda Moore, Dana and Rena Nathanson; four grandchildren, and his former wife, with whom he remained friends, Sandra Nathanson, as well as brothers Morris and Nathan Nathanson and sister Rachel Shuchman.

Services were private; a life celebration will be held in his honor later this summer. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in  to Crossroads Rhode Island or the Rhode Island Food Bank.
