GDA Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 8/19/2010 4:44:48 PM
South Deerfield, MA — Yankee Holding Corp. and The Yankee Candle Co. reported a 5.5 percent increase in sales for the second quarter of 2010, to $125.4 million.
Sales in the company's wholesale business were $53.7 million, an increase of $3 million or 5.8 percent versus the prior year second quarter. However the wholesale growth was driven primarily by an increase in sales in the company's international business, not domestic. Retail sales were $71.7 million, an increase of $3.6 million or 5.2 percent from the second quarter of fiscal 2009. However most of that was from new stores: Comparable sales in stores that have been open for more than one year decreased by 3.1 percent. The Consumer Direct business increased by 12.6 percent.
The company saw a net loss of $10.2 million for the second quarter, compared to a net loss of $12.5 million for the second quarter of 2009.
