SMALL BIZ JOBS GROW

GDA Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 8/21/2010 2:34:32 AM

>> While the "jobless recovery" is continuing to keep unemployment numbers high for the country as a whole, small businesses offer a bright spot. According to the Intuit Small Business Employment Index, small businesses added 18,000 new jobs in June, 25,000 in May, 66,000 in April, 50,000 in March and 40,000 in February - a total of about 330,000 new jobs since October 2009, when the trend began shifting upward. While that's still only a 1.10 percent annual growth rate, it reverses a downward trend that dates back to 2007. The data also shows a continued slight increase in compensation per worker and hours worked (.3 percent and .5 percent respectively).
Unfortunately, the good news appears to be slowing down, if not stopping, in job creation and hours worked, though compensation has not similarly slowed.
