Coupons Go Upscale, Online

GDA Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 8/21/2010 2:36:01 AM

OnlineAccording to Compete's June Online Shopper Intelligence survey, one-third of online shoppers surveyed said they generally use coupon sites while shopping online. Some 35 million consumers visited coupon sites in April, up 5 percent from the year prior. More than half - 57 percent - of the consumers who used a coupon code during their last online purchase said that if they had not received the discount, they would not have bought the item(s). Consumers who used a coupon spent almost twice as much as consumers who did not use a coupon: $216 versus $122. Four percent more people who used a coupon described themselves as extremely or very satisfied, and 5 percent more said they were extremely or very likely to buy from the same retailer again.
And coupons are not just for those just getting by. According to a survey conducted by Harris Interactive, some 61 percent of adults with a household income of $100,000 or more have redeemed a coupon in the past six months. And this high income bracket is nearly twice as likely, at 39 percent, to redeem coupons printed from an online source as adults with a household income less than $35,000. Adults with college degrees are almost twice as likely to have used coupons in the past six months as those who didn't graduate from high school, and is also more likely to make a purchase specifically to redeem a coupon, visit a product's Web site to get a coupon, and search for coupons online.
