Prairie Village, KS — Online Holding Company of Prairie Village acquired The San Francisco Music Box Company (SFMB) from Calendar Holdings LLC (Calendar Club) of Austin, TX.
The company has moved from Austin to Prairie Village where its business functions are already operational, including customer servicing, order processing and shipments. Barry Moore, who headed SFMB for Calendar Club, joined OHC and will head the new operation. OHC will also retain the services of the product development and international sourcing teams, which are located in Taiwan and on the West Coast.
This is far from the brand's first acquisition. Originally founded by John and Marcia Lanser in 1978, Woolworth bought the company several years later, on the eve of its initial public offering, then sold the company to Kier Group Holdings in 2001, as part of the purge that turned the company into today's Foot Locker Inc. Kier, in turn, sold the business to Calendar Club in 2003.
At its height, SFMB had more than 300 branded stores of its own, but today, all company stores have been closed and the company focuses exclusively on its network of authorized dealers. SFMB products are sold at more than 5,000 independent specialty retailers in the U.S., Canada and Europe, as well as at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Macy's, Universal Studios, and more than 600 Hallmark stores.
