Double Take: Summer Markets

Retail Editor 9 -- Gifts and Dec, 9/30/2010 12:04:00 PM

The summer season is over and with hints of fall creeping up, it's time to sit back and relax before fourth quarter comes thundering in. Looking back at the summer markets, it's safe to say they were an overall success. Vendors were pleased with sales and show managers were happy with traffic. After a tough 2009, the 2010 market season closed on a positive note.

And in terms of product, show-goers had plenty of new and interesting trends to add to their merchandise mixes to entice shoppers. Ikat continues to be a popular pattern, as were houndstooth, argyle, paisley and plaid prints. Words and letters were spotted throughout the showrooms and industrial looks were also a strong trend.

Jewelry took notes from the past this market season. Many pieces found inspiration in vintage designs and some vendors used old found objects to create something new and unique; many of the pieces offered are one-of-a-kind because of that. Other fashion trends that were prevalent were shrugs and knitted or fabric flower brooches.

As we all get ready for the fall and winter selling season, Gifts & Decorative Accessories presents some of the more stand out trends from the summer for you to peruse and reflect upon. Perhaps there's something here you might have missed...
