Colorforms Celebrating 60 Years

Playthings Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 2/13/2011 9:24:00 AM

San Francisco - Colorforms, the classic toy of thin vinyl shapes that stick to semigloss surfaces for creative play, is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2011. As part of the anniversary celebration, University Games, which now owns the brand, is releasing a special edition of the Original Colorforms Set that launched the brand in 1951.

There will be a limited number of sets, each individually numbered and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The set, which comes in a presentation case featuring Colorforms' history, includes 350 brightly-colored geometric Stick-Ons of five different colors in a spiral bound book, along with a reversible two-sided play board.
In addition, Colorforms will host a Kids Art Camp Contest, which begins April 1 and is designed for kids between the ages of 5 and 12. Each entrant will have the chance to win prizes, including a summer art camp scholarship. More information is available at www.facebook.com/colorforms or at www.universitygames.com.
The toy is the product of an offbeat idea of art students Harry and Patricia Kislevitz, who wanted something to use as a creative outlet for their children when in the bathroom. "It's a testament to the Kislevitz's vision that this product has endured for three generations of children now," says Bob Moog, president of University Games.
