Bon Annee, Ya'll

for product-weary eyes.

Merchandising in the early part of the year often requires a bit more editing. Our stores have been packed full for three months and our eyes need a bit of a rest. The same goes for customers. And with any luck at all, a display with a bit more elbow room is in order due to the success of the holiday season.
This display was inspired by a new line of accessories with a noticeably French inspiration. While small, the vignette offers a clear view of all of the products in a balanced presentation. The secret? All products are placed in a series of triangles on the table. Triangles are often used in graphic design to assist in the placement of text or objects. By using them in our merchandising, we can create an interesting display with adequate spacing between each item.
"Bon Annee, Ya'll," and good retail tidings for the year ahead.

Since most will approach the display from the left, the candles are all turned slightly in that direction. The triangular shape of the bases looks good from the left
or straight on.

Slowing Shoppers

Slowing Shoppers
I began by placing my tables on the wall and "dry fit" the mirror on the table to be sure both were sized appropriately. The mirror was hung so that the middle of the reflective area was at eye level. Paco Underhill found that mirrors slow shoppers down. To the right, near a corner, I placed the trio of metal candleholders.

Tasteful Accents
A stack of books fills a void between the mirror frame and table top. The cookbook title reinforces the Francophile theme. To the left, a large topiary balances the height of the candlesticks.

Try Theses Angles
Ceramic tableware featuring a fleur-de-lis motif is placed near the topiary. A small bowl and a pyramid of candles are placed in front of the candlesticks. The tester will complete this triangle.

FYI
A framed sign provides information and pricing on coordinating pieces not shown in the display.

Finshing Touches
A couple of carboys or demijohns (used to store wine, water or brine olives) placed beneath the tables provide interest in an otherwise vacant space.

Kidding Around

Kids products that combine high play value and a design sensibility that blends with mom and dad's house are sure winners for specialty shops, who can market themselves as an alternative to cheap plastic imports and their problematic safety records.

EcoGreen

Green products have become more of a staple now. The products are not only good for the environment, today's collections also boast great design.
