GDA Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 4/14/2011 5:26:43 PM

Atlanta - Todd Figi, founder of Figi Giftware, will be the recipient of the ICON HONORS 2011 Lifetime Achievement Todd FigiHonor. Figi was chosen by unanimous action of the ICON executive committee, according to Jeffrey L. Portman Sr., president and COO of ICON founding sponsor AmericasMart Atlanta. The Lifetime Achievement Honor "recognizes a single individual demonstrating distinguished advancement and enduring industry impact over the course of a career."

Figi's 40-year career in the gift industry will be celebrated posthumously at the second annual ICON HONORS event on Thursday, July 14, in conjunction with the July 2011 Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market. Figi passed away on January 9 at the age of 66. Figi's wife Norma Jean "Jake" Figi will accept the award.

Figi founded Figi Giftware in 1969 with a line of candles; the company grew to manufacture everything from photo frames and wall decor to refrigerator magnets, employ more than 200 sales representatives and operate factories in the U.S., Mexico and China.

Nor was that Figi's first exposure to the gift industry: his parents created Figi's Gifts In Good Taste in 1945.

In addition, Figi served as chairman of the board of trustees of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, president of the San Diego chapter of the Young Presidents' Organization and chairman of the California Gift Association. Figi was also active in many local and national charities, and was frequently recognized by the mayor of San Diego for his commitment to the city and its quality of life.

"Todd Figi and the gift industry are synonymous," George Kacic, vice president of Ganz, GHTA board chairman emeritus and an ICON HONORS founding partner, said in a statement. "The company he created, the products he conceived and produced and the sales organization he built literally laid the foundation for the industry as we know it. Todd's mark on who we are is indelible and enduring," Kacic added
