We Ask, You Answered

Jennifer HillJennifer HillDo you giftwrap? Do you charge for it? What does your wrap look like?

BLACKSTONE'S OF BEACON HILL
Boston, MA

We consider gift wrapping a standard offering at Blackstone's. We offer three levels: tissue in our yellow store bags, boxed with ribbon and wrapped with ribbon. Our store colors are yellow, green and gold. We have the previous owner to thank for having used dark emerald green ribbon hot stamped with our store name in gold. After much searching, we have found a recycled paper wrap that is a dark gold color that matches perfectly with our green ribbon. We also use brown kraft boxes similar to the gold gift wrap that work quite nicely with our ribbon when we opt not to wrap with paper.
We do not charge. We struggled with this one and finally decided it should be included in our service offering.
Besides the boxed/wrapped options, we also use white tissue paper in our store gift bags.

Tara RicebergTara Riceberg     I pre-wrap all my gifts so customers can grab-n-go. I pay great attention to detail so the recipient will be dazzled on receiving the gift. As she unwraps it, she sees beautiful tissue paper and finally the thoughtful object. It's all about the big reveal! The wrap builds anticipation.
I use my brand colors. This creates brand recognition and keeps costs down, as I can buy in bulk. I assort the papers, ribbons and adornments, so I'm not dependent on manufacturers' pricing or availability. Also, it is visually more stimulating to see a mix of polka dots, stripes and solid papers on the shelf. I use economical colored kraft paper and whimsical printed tissue papers, then overwrap them in cellophane to protect the paper from tearing and getting dirty. It's ideal for closet gifts and traveling. It requires extra time, but the results are worth it. For ribbon, I use double-faced satin in various widths on gifts over $25 and iridescent raffia under $25. All get bows made of affordable tulle, a business card inside and store sticker outside. Embellishments range from pinecones to crystals to glittered butterflies.

Marsha DautchMarsha Dautch     We have always gift wrapped for free with every purchase, regardless of the item's price. That has always been a big draw for our store. We have a choice of wedding/shower, baby, and floral themed papers, or our signature wrap, which is green with gold ‘J's printed on it. Green and gold are our store colors
We put a ribbon around the box and affix a gold or silver seal with our logo. At holiday time, we also offer Christmas or Hanukkah wrap.
In addition, we offer a gift box with every purchase, and put the purchase in a high quality shopping bag which also has our logo on it.
Our customers tell us that one reason they keep coming back is the free gift wrap. Even with rising costs, we still will not charge for gift wrap. It is just too important.
