NPD Highlights Purchase Differences between Male and Females When Buying Toys

GDA Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 7/12/2011 9:31:11 AM

Port Washington, NY - The NPD Group Inc. released its 2011 Brand Landscape Report, which lists the top factors in shoppers' decisions when purchasing toys, among other products.

The NPD Group lists the ten most important factors for males and females. The most important concern for females was that the child be "a fan of the character (movie or TV)." For males, it was that the child collects this brand.

Other factors for females include growing popularity, collectability, appealing features or benefits, trendiness, broad selectivity, money, quality and gift value.

Males also focused on trendiness, broad selectivity and money. However, they also considered technology as in issue.

"Over the past several years, we have watched consumers reevaluate their purchasing decisions, moving much more toward an 'investment mentality,'" said Dee Warmath, senior vice president of retail insights and global development at The NPD Group. "The job for retailers and manufacturers now is convincing the consumer that your products are worth them spending money on."
