New Orleans, LA –April is World Autism Month, and Beatriz Ball is donating a portion of all sales for the month of April to Autism Speaks. Autism Speaks is an accredited charity dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support; increasing understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder; and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions.

Officially adopting Autism Awareness as her company’s cause, Beatriz Ball is designing both a metal ornament and a keychain featuring the puzzle piece, the symbol for Autism Awareness, and all profits from those will go to the Autism Society of Greater New Orleans.

The company is also accepting online donations on the Beatriz Ball website and has solicited sponsorships for the Autism Speaks Powered by Love Walk held in New Orleans, April 8, 2017.

Ball’s adoption of Autism Awareness honors the millions of individuals and families affected by autism, and it is a cause very close to her heart.

Beatriz Ball Bo

Bo, the youngest of Beatriz’s 13 grandchildren, was diagnosed with autism just before his third birthday. Now 4, Bo lives in New Orleans with his parents, Kristine and Jose Maruri, Beatriz's son and daughter-in-law. He is the youngest of 5 children, and he is the source of much joy and wonder for his family.

“That diagnosis brought both sadness and fear— fear of the unknown. What would his life be like? What would his future hold?” said Kristine Maruri, Bo’s mother. “Turns out that Bo answers those questions for us daily. His life will be great and the sky is the limit for his future!”

Upon diagnosis, and with the help and support of organizations like Autism Speaks and the Autism Society of Greater New Orleans, Kristine and Jose began the process of searching for the best therapies for Bo.

The learning curve is steep, and the support and resources from organizations like these are critical and invaluable to the families and the individuals on the spectrum. The family is beyond thrilled about recent advances in awareness, but there is still so much that can be done.

A longtime supporter of charitable giving, Beatriz Ball was honored with the Bert Tonkin Gift of Giving Award from Gift for Life, which is joined with DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting Aids) in 2015. Created in memory of Bert Tonkin, a visionary businessman who masterminded the San Francisco International Gift Fair, the Gift of Giving Award recognizes the charitable and philanthropic efforts of individuals from the Gift Industry.
