Washington, DC - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Little Tikes of Hudson, OH, voluntarily recalled more than 1.7 million additional Tikes Workshop and Tool Sets. They were sold by mass merchandise retailers nationwide from 1990 through 2004.
Recalled nails
The recalled workshop and tool sets have oversized, plastic toy nails that can pose a choking hazard to young children. (About 1.6 million toy workshop sets and trucks with the same toy nails were recalled in August 2009.)
Any products with toy nails sold today by Little Tikes are not affected by this recall, according to MGA Entertainment, which purchased The Little Tikes Company in 2006.
The firm has reported two additional incidents, occurring prior to the August 2009 recall, of children who choked when the toy nail became lodged in their throat. Both children were treated in a hospital and made a full recovery.
Consumers should immediately take the toy nails away from young children and contact the firm for free replacement toy nails. The firm's recall hotline is 800.321.0183.
The CPSC also voluntarily recalled about 1,900 toy cars manufacturered by LM Import & Export Inc., of Miami, FL, and distributed by Mega Wholesales Corp., also of Miami. Surface paint on the toy cars contains excessive levels of lead. No incidents or injuries were reported. They were sold exclusively at: Mega Wholesale stores throughout Miami from September 2010 through January 2011.
