Groton, NY - When New York State Route 38, between Oswego and Sterling, was renamed The New York State Vietnam
Veteran Memorial Highway of Valor, the state erected two signs at each entrance. There weren't enough funds to add more signs along the 98-mile stretch of highway, so the Rotary Club of Groton, NY, committed to raise money to install four highway signs and to have two of them landscaped dedicating the highway to those who served during the Vietnam War. The goal is to have signs placed going in and out of every town along the route. So far 36 signs have been place with another 12 yet to go in.
Local retailer Janet Watkins of Brittany Station, and a member of the Groton Rotary, decided to donate 100 percent of the prophets of Magnet Works' Heroes flag to the highway sign project. So far, more than 200 flags have been sold. In addition, Magnet Works will donate their profits to Operation Homefront, which provides emergency financial assistance and other aid to the families of service members and wounded warriors in need.
