Toy of the Year Nominees Released

New York -The Toy Industry Association Inc. (TIA) named the nominees for the 2012 Toy of the Year (TOTY) Awards.

Among the many nominees were Hot Wheels Wall Tracks by Mattel, Inc., nanoblock by The Ohio Art Company, Angry Birds plush toys by Commonwealth Toy & Novelty Co., Elefun Busy Ball Popper by Hasbro/Playskool (shown) and Rory's Story Cubes by Gamewright/Ceaco. The finalists were selected by Nomination Committees from nearly 600 toys, games and properties submitted for consideration across 11 categories. The committees were comprised of journalists, toy trend experts, play therapists, toy inventors and designers and toy retailers.
At ToyAwards.org, kids of all ages can vote for their favorite toys now through January 15. Families can also download a Holiday Gift Guide and register to win prizes. In addition to the consumer vote, ballots were launched for retailers, media, and members of the toy industry. Winners will be announced during the TOTY Awards ceremony on Saturday, February 11, 2012, as the kick-off to the American International Toy Fair.
Also during the ceremony, Arnie Rubin, founder and CEO of Funrise Toy Corporation, and the late Frederick August Otto Schwarz, founder of FAO Schwarz, will be inducted into the Toy Industry Hall of Fame.
