Mattel Q4, 2011 End On High Note

El Segundo, CA - Major toy manufacturer Mattel reported net sales up 1 percent for the fourth quarter of 2011. Domestic sales fell 2 percent, however international sales rose 5 percent. Barbie was up 6 percent for the quarter; Hot Wheels, up 11 percent and American Girl, 4 percent; Core Fisher-Price fell 3 percent.
Bryan G. Stockton, Mattel CEO, said in a statement, "Four of the top five properties for the 2011 holiday season were Mattel properties."

For the full year 2011, worldwide sales rose 7 percent. Domestic sales were up 3 percent and international, 12. Barbie was up 12 percent; Hot Wheels, 6 percent; Core Fisher-Price, 2 percent and American Girl, 5 percent.

For the fourth quarter, net income was $370.6 million, or $1.07 per share, compared to last year's $325.2 million, or $0.89 per share. For the year, net income was $768.5 million, or $2.18 per share, compared to last year's $684.9 million, or $1.86 per share.
