Enesco Department 56 Collectible Recalled

GDA Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 12/13/2012 11:38:15 AM

Department 56 ShellyDepartment 56 Shelly's DinerWASHINGTON - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with Enesco, voluntarily recalled the Department 56 Shelly's Diner Collectible Ceramic due to fire hazard.

Enesco received two reports of power adapters partially melting due to overheating, according to the report. The diner's power adapter can overheat and melt the adapter's plastic housing, posing a fire hazard. No injuries or property damage were reported.

Doris Bernar, Enesco spokesperson, told Gifts & Decorative Accessories that customers have been informed of the recalled unit. "It was on a very limited number, so we're not going to do a complete recall on the item, just the plastic housing units for the adpaters," she said. "We're giving people the option. They can either get a replacement adapter and still use Shelly's Diner, or they can return the whole thing if they want to, but there's nothing wrong with the house itself."

The recalled product is part of the Department 56 Original Snow Village collection of lighted buildings and comes with a traditional power cord that lights the interior and a separate power adapter that lights the exterior. The collectible is a ceramic building shaped like a diner and is approximately 10¼"x6¼"x4½". This recall includes diners with date codes 03 12 JP01 or 05 12 JP01 stamped on the bottom of the diner.

Nearly 1,600 units were sold at holiday stores and gift shops nationwide and online at amazon.com from July 2012 through September 2012 for about $120.

Consumers should immediately stop using the diner's power adapter and contact Enesco at (800) 436-3726 or online for a free replacement adapter or a full refund.
