Special Events

  • "Lunch is On Us." January 26, noon, floors 12–15. Buyers can enjoy a complimentary lunch while shopping the permanent showroom floors.
  • "Shop Late Till 8." January 26, 6–8 p.m., floors 12–15. Buyers can play "Round the Mart Poker" on the permanent showroom floors. For each order placed that day, buyers will receive a playing card. The buyer with the best hand at the end of the night will win a prize.
  • "Super Bowl Bash." January 27, 6–8 p.m. at Joe's Sports Bar. Tickets are $25 and include food, open bar from 6–8 p.m., and shuttle service to and from the Mart. Tickets are available through www.merchandisemart.com, or on site at the ticket booth in the North Lobby.
  • "Tasty Treasure Hunt." January 29, 10 a.m., floor 8. Buyers can enjoy brunch while shopping the Gift, Home, and Garden Market Temporaries section for a treasure trove of product.

  • "Strategically Shopping the Mart: Your Map to Success." Friday, January 25, 10–11 a.m. Maximize your time while taking advantage of the Mart's resources. Speakers: Christy Clow and Dianna Mosley.
  • "Turning Trends into Profits." Saturday, January 26, 11 a.m.–noon. Learn the ins and outs of product directions for 2002. Speaker: Joyce Washnik.
  • "What's Hot in Home Decor." Saturday, January 26, 1–2 p.m. See some of the hot products, hear comments from retailers, and receive vendor sources. Speaker: Jim Carper.
  • "Trendmeister's Guide to Anticipating Trends." Sunday, January 27, 11 a.m.–noon. Discuss business issues and how they relate to the products buyers see at market.
  • "More Flash for Your Cash: Store Promotion on a Budget." Sunday, January 27, 12:30–1:30 p.m. See a variety of creative and fun ideas that are low in cost but big in results.

Look For: The Merchandise Mart will premiere up to 50 new permanent market-time showrooms in its converted 12th floor Market Suites space. The new showroom tenants will be a combination of new exhibitors to Chicago, existing Market Suites exhibitors that are taking on a stronger presence, and current showroom tenants that are expanding their offerings at the Merchandise Mart.

The Housewares Design Center offers a complete program of presentations by designers, engineers, and marketers, and will also showcase the winners of this year's National Student Design Competition, sponsored by the IHA, as well as a display of this year's GIA honorees.
