AmericasMart to Build 17-Story Addition
By Staff -- Gifts & Decorative Accessories, 2/1/2004
Atlanta — AmericasMart Atlanta purchased the former Greyhound bus terminal property adjacent to its Gift Mart building, and will undertake a 2-million-square-foot expansion of its 6.2-million-square-foot wholesale trade mart. Home furnishings and home accents will be the anchor category in the expanded space. Preliminary design work has begun in preparation for a 2005 groundbreaking, and the building is expected to be completed in early 2007. The new structure will stand cheek-by-jowl to the Gift Mart, permitting the two buildings to be linked. A number of lower floors in the new building will be used as temporary exhibition space, while the upper floors will house permanent showrooms. The ground-level floor will be dedicated to truck bays for loading and unloading of merchandise. Plans are also expected to include below-ground parking for 600 to 800 cars within the new structure.
