Component Papers to Carry in Your Store
-- Gifts & Decorative Accessories, 10/1/2000
Since many brides are reviving old traditions, your staff should be well versed in these papers in order to accommodate customers and, of course, build sales! Refer to a title like Crane's Wedding Blue Book for more details on these and other pieces.
- Accommodation Cards list the names, addresses, and phone numbers of nearby hotels.
- Admission Cards are sent with the invitation and are presented for admittance.
- At-home Cards are small enclosure cards that bear the new address, and often phone number, of the couple, as well as the date they'll be there.
- Calling Cards function as gift enclosures, informal invitations, and handouts in social situations.
- Ceremony Cards are included with reception invitations to guests invited to the ceremony when there is a small wedding and a large reception.
- Direction/Map Cards. Direction cards give just that, while map cards resemble maps. Some send these only to those who accept the invitation.
- Escort Cards are small cards that tell a gentleman which lady he is expected to escort to the reception. The man's name is on the envelope; the lady's, on the enclosed card.
- Gift Acknowledgment Cards are sent to buy time. They acknowledge that a gift has been received and that a personal note is forthcoming.
- Pew Cards help ushers guide guests to pre-assigned pews. Sent with the invitation, each has a space to write in the appropriate pew number.
- Postponement of a Wedding. When time allows, formal announcements herald the postponement and provide a new date.
- Reception Cards are used when the ceremony and reception are in different places.
- Save-the-Date Cards are sent at least three months before the wedding, allowing guests to reserve the date in question, and let out-of-towners make travel plans.
- Transportation Cards are sent with the invitations, and generally read, "Transportation will be provided from the ceremony to the reception."
- Wedding Announcements are mailed after the wedding by the couple or the bride's parents. They follow the same format as the invitation, and are usually sent with at-home cards.
- Within-the-Ribbon Cards. When pews are cordoned off, small cards reading "Within the ribbon" are sent to guests who will be seated there.
