Burbank, CA — The Walt Disney Company entered into an agreement in which The Children's Place, Secaucus, NJ, acquired the Disney Store retail chain of 313 stores in North America. The Children's Place sells its own brand of clothing for kids in its 695 stores across the country, and will add Disney-licensed characters to its product mix. While The Children's Place won't pay anything to take over the Disney Store chain, it is committed to spending $50 million to upgrade the stores. Children's Place s.v.p. Mario Ciampi was appointed president of Disney Stores North America. Disney will continue to operate its two flagship stores on New York's Fifth Avenue and in Burbank, CA.
