Snoopy Statues Aid Art Education
-- Gifts & Decorative Accessories, 11/1/2000
Sotheby's, the well-known art auction house, held a live auction at the Mall of America, Bloomington, MN, to sell Snoopy statues from St. Paul's summer exhibit, Peanuts on Parade. More than 100 Snoopy statues were created and designed by local artists as a tribute to cartoonist and Minnesota native Charles M. Schultz, as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of Schultz's Peanuts comic strip. Proceeds from the auction benefit an endowed chair of illustration at the College of Visual Arts, and scholarships to the Art Instruction School at which Schultz studied and taught, as well as a permanent bronze sculpture of the Peanuts Gang in St. Paul. Peanuts is licensed by United Media.
