Lancaster Colony Posts Record Sales

Columbus, OH-Lancaster Colony Corp. reported record high net sales for the company's first fiscal quarter, ended September, 30, 2000. Net sales were $264 million, compared to $260 million in the first quarter of last year. The Glassware and Candles Group experienced a decline in net sales and operating income for the quarter. According to a statement by John B. Gerlach Jr., the glassware results were adversely affected by operational inefficiencies, including those incurred in developing a new product line, and by higher energy-related costs.
