Diane A. Maicon -- Gifts & Decorative Accessories, 1/1/2001

Consider laying the groundwork (so to speak) for cross merchandising in your store with area rugs, if you aren't doing it already. Utilize the floor or hang them on the wall! You'll see new designs, new colors, new shapes, and new companies throughout the AmericasMart 1 (AM1) floors 3, 4, 5, and 6. Also check out the temporary exhibitors. As you're shopping the floors, stop in at Oriental Weavers, AM1 3-A-2, to see four new collections. They include Elements (eight Tibetan-like designs with hand-knotted fringe), Paradisio (six wool designs), Kharma II (five patterns in a contemporary theme), and Illusions (oversized floral and geometric designs crafted from tea-stained New Zealand wool).

Scene Weaver, in Gib Carson Associates, 1319 AmericasMart 2 (AM2), will keep sales hopping with throws, pillows, wall tapestries, and home accessories. Its fall 2000 collections include a variety of licensees including Al Agnew, The Edith Collection, Donna Elias (Donna's Great American Lighthouses Collection), Fred Galloway (floral tapestry), Jim Harrison, Cary Savage-Ingram, Mpressions (shoes), Linda Hartough (golf!), Dempsey Essick, Guy Harvey (sea life), Doug London (more golf!), Sports Afield (vintage magazine covers), and Realtree/Advantage (hunt scenes). Al Agnew's collection ties in nicely with the lodge look. The throws or tapestries are 52"x69" and feature 22 different designs including the Fall Buck, Black Bear Family, Moose, Old Homestead, Three Walleye, Trout on a Fly, Winter Songbirds, and Gator.

The Gardens welcomes more than 20 new companies featuring indoor/outdoor decorative accessories ando utilitarian gardening products: Alexandria Bay Trading Co., 14-B-243; Alle Studios, 15-C-319; Arte Florum, 14-A-120; Clay Craft Planters, 14-C-337; Cricket Forge, 14-B-219; DT Sprinklers, 15-C-319; Fishtales, 14-B-218; Garden Sence, 15-C-310; Golden Leaf Garden Products, 15-B-225; International Hand Made Art, 15-C-320; KLR Designs, 15-C-315; Mata Natural Art, 15-C-319; Mid-Atlantic Pottery, 14-C-312; Ottoman Treasures, 15-A-121; Outdoor Decor, 14-B-279; Pacific Concrete, 14-B-275; Paragon Garden Art, 14-B-278; Riverwood Originals, 15-C-326; Sense Celebration, 15-C-319; Signs of all Kinds, 14-B-244; Swings N Things, 14-B-273; Tuscan Imports, 15-A-129; Wang's International, 15-C-313; and Windy Willow Trading Co., 15-C-303.

On the eighth floor of AM2, you'll find little treasures in Staffordshire Enamels, 859A. Among the company's 44 new items, check out the three new bonbonnieres hand-painted in porcelain and enamel. Of particular interest is the Panda design that ties in with Zoo Atlanta's two pandas. The Staffordshire Panda bonbonniere captures the magic of the creature at $325 retail. Also see the butterfly image (colors range from warm brown to rich orange and yellow hues) retailing for $250, and the children's rocking horse, which is a memorable keepsake for new parents retailing for $350.
