All About Harry
-- Gifts & Decorative Accessories, 1/1/2001
With all the frenzy surrounding Harry Potter, you'd think J.K. Rowling had cast a spell over everybody. But the truth of the matter is that the books are entertaining, and adults are hooked, too.
While both children and grown-ups have fallen in love with the stories and the characters, the most appealing factor for parents is the fact that the Harry Potter book series has gotten their kids to read-a challenge parents have struggled with since the 1950s, when television made its debut.
Of course, with every popular story, licensed products are sure to follow. And with the Harry Potter movie from Warner Bros. due out this November, you can be sure that Christmas 2001 is going to be all about Harry.
Now is the time to get in on the action. If you want to attract youngsters (and their parents) to your shop, stock up on paraphernalia related to this year's Pokemon. And there is plenty of licensed product to fill store shelves. There are home accessories from Enesco and Goodwin Weavers, and toys from Gund, Hasbro, and Mattel. PJ Kids has also jumped on the bandwagon with a line of furniture and accessories featuring the magical hero and his friends.
So for Christmas, be sure to create a special display starring the bespectacled wizard, and enjoy the magic carpet ride that is Harry Potter.
