Anaheim Hosts Collectors

Krause Publications and NALED team up to present a show for both retailers and consumers

Edited by Matthew Kalash -- Gifts & Decorative Accessories, 2/1/2001

Billed as the largest collection of limited-edition collectibles ever assembled under one roof, the 27th annual International Collectible Exposition at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA, is sure to offer both retailers and collectors a wide assortment of buying opportunities. From April 26-29, more than 200 manufacturers will occupy hundreds of booths featuring limited-edition items including cottages, dolls, figurines, ornaments, teddy bears, villages, plates, and accessories. Exhibitors scheduled to appear at the show include Kurt S. Adler Inc., Christopher Radko, Enesco Corp., the Franklin Mint, and the San Francisco Music Box Co., among many others.

The market, produced by Krause Publications, will be open to retailers only on April 26-27. On April 28-29, the collecting public is invited to join the exposition, meet their favorite artists, get pieces signed, and participate in the daily Swap 'n 'Sell events. Retailers can register by calling toll free at (877) 746-9757. Tickets for the public can be purchased in advance at the same number, or by logging on to www.collectibleshow.com. Tickets can also be purchased on site. One-day admission for the public is $10, and a two-day ticket is $13.

The National Association of Limited Edition Dealers (NALED) will endorse the International Collectible Exposition, and serve as a co-sponsor of the 2001 events. The endorsement means that NALED will work with show management to develop an educational program at the Anaheim show, including a series of retailer seminars and panels on Friday, April 27. Topics include making the Internet part of your retail mix, and the critical issue of finding and retaining good employees. The keynote speaker at the Anaheim show will be Gary Wright, president and founder of G.A. Wright Inc., an advertising and promotion firm based in Denver that works with retailers. Wright's address, "Pack 'Em In, Move It Out," will be presented Thursday, April 26. Tony DeMasi of DeMasi Marketing will host the Top Gun Retailer Session, in which collectible industry retailers answer questions posed by the dealer audience. According to a statement from Claude Chmiel, show producer for Krause Publications, the Collectible Expo is "delighted to be once again the only collectible show endorsed by NALED."
