Market Report: Washington, DC
By Caroline Kennedy -- Gifts & Decorative Accessories, 9/1/2006
George Little Management's Washington (DC) Gift Show opened its new home, the Washington Convention Center, with a snip of giant ceremonial scissors through a red ribbon spanning the entrance to the exhibit hall. Show manager Louise Seeber and Phil Robinson, GLM vice president, looked on as exhibitors Howard Cornblatt and Laurie Pearl Friedman made the grand opening cut. Duane Byrum, representing the Washington DC Convention & Tourism Corp., and Sallie Dupont, event manager of the Washington Convention Center lent their support, and with no further ado, buyers got down to the business of placing orders for their stores.
Relocation to the new DC Convention Center from the Dulles Convention Center in Chantilly, VA, was intended to re-energize this vital regional market, and if the early conversations with both exhibitors and buyers are any indication, the Washington Gift Show is right on track and poised for growth.
