Information Is Served

By Maria Weiskott, Editor-in-Chief -- Gifts & Decorative Accessories, 9/1/2007

Several decades ago, a well-known fast food chain ran an advertising campaign inviting fast-foodies to “Have it your way!” The campaign even had one of those catchy jingles, the kind for which ad agencies get paid a small fortune. (Okay, maybe not so small.) The promotion, which appeared on radio and television, and in print, boldly defied the very concept of fast food.

By all measures, the ad campaign was a success, and apparently worth all that money paid to Madison Avenue advertisers. That beguiling tune — which was randomly hummed and whistled by the masses well after the promo was concluded — seemed worth the cost alone.

Fast forward thirty-something years: the fast food chain is still around, proving not only survival of a clever promotion (just see what happens when you Google “Have it your way”), but another thing or two. For one, consumers like options. Another: that a basic ingredient can be served up in several different ways — even at a fast food restaurant.

While we can't offer a catchy tune to whistle (well, not yet anyway), or a sticky jingle to work into a conversation, Gifts & Decorative Accessories can and does offer options, serving up a basic ingredient in many different ways.

The ingredient is information — our claim to fame for 90 years. And now readers have more options than ever for accessing the best source of information on the gift industry. The magazine you're reading is just one of the many options we offer. If you visit us at giftsanddec.com, you know what we mean; you've found out about all the options we serve on a regular basis.

  • Doubletake- Stationery: Going for the Green
The Green message was delivered loud and clear across all product categories. The stationery industry is really embracing the concept and helping to move it forward. And the best thing about the new “green”? It doesn’t look it!
  • Doubletake- Stationery: Eco Totes
A subset of the eco message is the call to arms for consumers to use their own bags when shopping. Sturdy reusable shopping totes were much in evidence as an eco-fashion statement.
  • Doubletake-Stationery: Birds
Gifts & Decorative Accessories previously noted the widespread presence of peacocks & peacock-related motifs on tabletop, home décor & other gift items. In stationery, it’s not just peacocks, but birds of all feathers.
