Take a Break, Already!

According to a survey conducted by Sam's Club, nearly 50 percent of small business owners only take major holidays off, if they take a break at all. Meanwhile, the rest of the world uses more than double this number of vacation days.
The study also suggests that how respondents plan their vacations is the reason for the infrequency. Nearly 90 percent of small business owners who vacation plan trips at the last minute, rather than planning ahead (perhaps making the trip more stressful than relaxing). Furthermore, over 93 percent plan vacations on their own, which can be daunting and time consuming.
Among small business owners who said that they would take a vacation, 66 percent will take just one week off all summer. Yet while this devotion may seem admirable, it may not be good for the health of owner or business. Overwork can lead to stress, burnout and sleeplessness, and eventually inhibit productivity on the job.
