ART Award Winners Honored at DMC Annual Gala

By Staff -- Gifts & Decorative Accessories, 1/22/2008 9:05:00 AM

Dallas – While Hollywood pondered the outcome of film's upcoming major "red carpet" event, it was full steam ahead in Dallas this past weekend for one of  the home decor industry's major "red carpet" events: the Accessories Resource Team (ART) Awards gala. Winners in 25 categories were named during the 19th annual event, held at the Grand Pavilion at the Dallas Market Center, which also recognized Academy of Achievement honoree Arlette Baker of Carl’s Furniture in Boca Raton, FL.

More than 700 retailers, manufacturers, sales representatives, media, designers and their guests from across the country attended the event. The Grand Pavilion at the Trade Market was transformed for the evening and glowed in gold and cinnabar hues in an Asian-influenced theme.

Presenters for the evening included designers, retailers and industry personalities as well as DMC executives. Bill Winsor, president and CEO of Dallas Market Center, and Sharon Davis, executive director of ART, opened the evening. Other presenters included nationally known designer Barry Dixon and Trading Spaces personality Edward Walker. The Academy of Achievement Award was presented to Arlette Baker by Bob Dragen, Co-owner of Carl’s Furniture.

The ARTS Awards, presented each January during the Total Home & Gift Market, is the

  • Doubletake- Stationery: Going for the Green
The Green message was delivered loud and clear across all product categories. The stationery industry is really embracing the concept and helping to move it forward. And the best thing about the new “green”? It doesn’t look it!
  • Doubletake- Stationery: Eco Totes
A subset of the eco message is the call to arms for consumers to use their own bags when shopping. Sturdy reusable shopping totes were much in evidence as an eco-fashion statement.
  • Doubletake-Stationery: Birds
Gifts & Decorative Accessories previously noted the widespread presence of peacocks & peacock-related motifs on tabletop, home décor & other gift items. In stationery, it’s not just peacocks, but birds of all feathers.
