High Tech, High Touch

Want to add an extra special online feature for guests, registrants, or other online customers? Giftmail, a new service from New York-based RichFX, combines the popularity and rapid response time of e-mail with the personalization trend, and takes order notification to the next level. When customers buy a gift, they have the option of creating a Web-based multimedia announcement, including a personal message and a picture of the actual gift, which is then sent to the gift recipient. Because Giftmail gets there on the day the gift is bought, it's great for the last-minute shopper. Recipients can choose to accept or exchange the gift online, so that retailer and consumer alike avoid the hassles and delays of shipping. There's no start-up investment, since implementation is free, and the company receives a percentage of each transaction made using the Giftmail service. Will customers really go for this? It's too soon to say. According to RichFX director of corporate communications Steve Price, the company was about to do its first Giftmail launch at press time. Retailers also get their own e-mail account, a listing in Your Registry's online Store Gallery (still under construction at press time), customizable sales tracking and forecasting reports, customer and employee registry support materials and training, and announcements to guests of registries at your store. The basic fees start at $89 per month for a one-year contract, and are keyed to the size of the retailer's store. In addition, Your Registry takes a 7 percent commission on all registry sales.
