Edited by Matthew Kalash -- Gifts & Decorative Accessories, 5/1/2001

The Dallas International Gift & Home Accessories Market, also known as the Dallas Super Market, will present a diverse trade show, June 21–28, comprised of seven distinct markets across seven million square feet. This semiannual event will be housed in the Dallas Market Center's (DMC) campus of buildings: the World Trade Center (WTC), the Dallas Trade Mart (DTM), the International Floral Design Center (IFDC), and Market Hall. This summer's market segments include Accents Five and Six, and The Garden District, June 21–28; the Gourmet Market, and the Dallas International Lighting and Accessories Market, June 22–26; and the Dallas National Furniture Market, SILK 2001, and the George Little Management (GLM) Temporaries Market, June 23–26. In addition to the huge selection of merchandise, the Dallas Super Market offers social events where buyers can unwind and network with industry peers, as well as a full docket of educational seminars to help retailers enhance their businesses.

MARKET HIGHLIGHTS

  • Accents Five and Six, on the fifth and sixth floors of the WTC, respectively, feature accent furniture, decorative accessories, portable lighting, accent rugs, wall decor, and gifts for the home.
  • The DMC's newest shared permanent showroom, The Garden District, on the sixth floor of the WTC, will be fully open for its first spring Super Market, with both Phases I and II open with exhibitors. The Garden District showcases gifts, decorative accessories, furniture, and lighting for the garden in a relaxed atmosphere with exhibitor spaces arranged in easy-to-shop quadrants.
  • The Gourmet Market is a 44,000-square-foot shared showroom featuring more than 2,000 lines of gourmet foods, kitchen accessories, tabletop and gourmet gadgets. It also serves as a showplace for cooking demonstrations and seminars hosted by leading chefs and gourmets. The Gourmet Market is open 9 a.m.–4 p.m. WTC 180.
  • More than 200 lighting manufacturers will be represented in the Dallas International Lighting and Accessories Market, DTM, floors 3 and 4. According to producers, most showrooms will feature new product introductions and special discounts available only at this market. In addition, the American Lighting Association will sponsor several seminars during this time. Call (800) 605-4448 for details.
  • The Dallas National Furniture Market features temporary furniture exhibits on the 12th floor of the WTC, 8:30 a.m.–6 p.m., June 23–25; and 8:30 a.m.–3 p.m., June 26. Additional furniture resources are available on the Design Floors (9, 10, and 11) of the WTC.
  • SILK 2001, an international trade event for buyers of permanent and seasonal floral and related decorative accessories, will take place in the IFDC and the 13th floor of the WTC. Buyers representing companies that sell flowers and related products, with annual sales of $250,000 or more, will be issued SILK badges. SILK exhibitors will compete for the title of Designer of the Year in five design categories in the FAME Design Competition. Entries will be judged for theme and style, mechanical construction, originality, and use of color. In addition, there will be Soap Box demonstrations covering topics such as bridal bouquets, gift packaging, ribbon, succulents, and designs under $25.
  • The GLM Temporaries will include 1,200 exhibitors in 205,000 square feet of space in the WTC and Market Hall. The Country Classics and Handmade temporary sections will relocate to Market Hall Main this spring and significantly expand the square footage of exhibitors. In order to make space available, the Cash N' Carry section will move from Market Hall Main to Market Hall North.
