Dallas News

Dorothy Weaver -- Gifts & Decorative Accessories, 6/1/2001

The Imports line of Swarovski crystal eggs, boxes, and jewelry; candle crowns; and floating diamond-shaped jewel-tone gel candles shimmer and shine at J. Brandes Inc., 2242 Dallas Trade Mart (DTM). The Herdoos line of whimsical hair brushes and mirrors make grooming and dressing-up serious fun.

Cubist shapes and the straightforward colors of Modernism are evident in Design Ideas candle accessories at Patrick & Co., 2927 DTM. For everyone's on-going battle with clutter, solutions are offered in metal mesh. Find sleek hampers, laundry bins, storage nests, go-anywhere containers, mesh butler coat racks, and catchalls for the mudroom and entryway. Gris garden accessories create a relaxing retreat from the humdrum. Design Ideas continues its commitment to being socially responsible. In Mexico, the company employs mentally disabled workers who would otherwise have no livelihood. In Asia, Design Ideas works with rural artisans, and a portion of each purchase is given back to local hospitals in support of children's medical care. In conjunction with its collection from Vietnam, the company donates to American veterans of the Vietnam War.

Sleek stylization captures attention at Goetz, 2111 DTM. Fresh new gift ideas in home accessories and floral containers from 18 Karat, and Daisy Arts Italian-made, vegetable-tanned leather albums and journals recently joined the eclectic assemblage.

Crystal classics at Gallery Imports, 2214 DTM, include Italian crystal with sterling silver borders, and some in a frosted finish. Vases, candleholders, ashtrays, bowls and trays are among the stately elegant collection.

New lines at Tim Gaskin & Associates, 1325 DTM, underscore the gardening trend. Bloomin' Flower Cards' plantable seeded products, E. Zarre Studios candleholders and collectibles for home and garden are interesting. Hookery's handcrafted wrought iron hardware and baskets, Linn-Adamsen Metal Art's handcrafted metal crosses and garden stakes, and Terra-Beata Studios handmade tree swings make garden statements. Gaskin also exhibits in The Garden District on the 6th floor of the World Trade Center (WTC).

Figi, 421 WTC, has a sure-fire way to brighten the day with Sheriff Joe tableware, porch and patio decor, windchimes, and flowerpot risers. Michel's Winnie the Pooh hand-painted resin line of frames, clocks, lamps, and more delight collectors and children alike.
