Portland, OR —
Hallmark Cards added same-sex wedding cards to its line. The cards feature two tuxedos, overlapping hearts or intertwined flowers, according to the Associated Press. Hallmark says the move is a response to consumer demand, not to political pressure. Inside greetings don’t mention marriage specifically, so they are also suitable for civil unions or commitment ceremonies. Hallmark stores can choose whether or not to add the four same sex wedding designs, which will be gradually released this summer and widely available by next year. No sales figures were yet available. Hallmark offers about 200 wedding cards in total, including those aimed at interracial or inter-religious marriages and blended families. Hallmark also started offering coming out cards last year.
