Learning Express and ALEX make lemonade

By Staff -- Gifts and Dec, July 14, 2005

DEVENS, Mass.—Learning Express is teaming up with Alex, Northvale, N.J., to support a fundraising effort for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Charity.

On July 23, each participating Learning Express toy store will set-up a lemonade stand outside the store. The stand will be managed by local children’s organizations and the proceeds will be donated to the foundation. Each store owner will also offer their own local ‘twists’ to the program to maximize revenues for cancer research. Many will also be stocking the “Alex’s Lemonade Stand” book and kit, published by Running Press, to help children open their own stand, like Alex did.

To add to the event, Alex has donated its new wooden Lemonade Stand with a colorful fabric awning and chalkboard front to each participating Learning Express toy store.

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Charity was inspired by Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). Scott was diagnosed with an aggressive form of childhood cancer, two days before her first birthday. At age four, Alex decided to open a lemonade stand and donate revenues to “her hospital.” Five years and many cups later, millions of dollars have been donated to Pediatric Cancer research through the Alex’s Lemonade Stand foundation.
