By Staff -- Gifts and Dec, March 24, 2009

NEW YORK—Gregory J. Battersby, intellectual property lawyer and author of several books on the licensing business, will be inducted into the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers' Association (LIMA) Murray Altchuler Licensing Industry Hall of Fame.

"Greg Battersby is a pioneer and a leader in the rapidly growing field of intellectual property law, with more than 25 years of expertise in negotiating license agreements across industries," said Charles Riotto, president of LIMA. "A respected author and lecturer, Greg shares LIMA's commitment to advancing professionalism and education in the licensing community. I'm honored that he is a colleague and thrilled that he will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as the industry comes together for our inaugural Expo in Las Vegas."

Battersby has written more than 25 books on licensing, including Licensing Royalty Rates and Licensing Desk Book. His experience in intellectual property law includes litigation, prosecution and transactional matters. He has served as LIMA General Counsel since 1995 and has served on LIMA's executive committee and as chairman of its education committee for 10 years.

"Having worked closely with LIMA since 1995, I'm honored to be inducted into the Licensing Hall of Fame," said Battersby. "This represents the industry's recognition not only of my achievements and those of my partners and associates, but of the importance of intellectual property considerations in our fast-paced, media-rich world."

Prior to co-founding Grimes & Battersby in 1982, Battersby served as senior counsel at Gulf & Western Industries, now Paramount Communications, a subsidiary of Viacom.

Battersby’s induction ceremony will take place on June 2 at the first annual LIMA Opening Night Awards Party at Licensing International Expo 2009, which is being held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

Candidates for the Murray Altchuler Licensing Hall of Fame must demonstrate continual and outstanding contributions to the licensing industry. Consideration is given to those who have been actively involved in the business of licensing for a minimum of 10 years and whose contributions have ongoing relevance to the industry, according to LIMA.
