SEATTLE, Wash.—FunHub Creative, a company formed by Front Porch Classics alumni, will launch an assortment of three plush-packaged games at Barnes & Noble in time for holiday season sales.
The toymaker’s new Octopi Games combine dice games with plush collectibles. They are the first in a series of “social collectibles” from the company that promote face-to-face interaction with family and friends. To help foster that social interaction, Octopi Games are designed for portability; each Octopi comes in a travel-friendly size and features Velcro pads on the tips of the arms making them easy to carry and store.
“Up until now the difference between a game and a plush collectible has been pretty clear. A game was something you played; a collectible was something you kept on your bookshelf or bed. Octopi Games changes that,” said Steve Hart, co-founder, FunHub Creative. “The dynamic element of game play combined with the collectible value of a plush toy makes this a multidimensional gift sure to resonate this holiday season with families and young collectors alike.”
Each Octopi comes with "an easy-to-learn, fun-for-the-whole-family" dice game complete with a unique treasure. The first three plush collectible Octopi to be featured will be:
• Grippa, whose game Sink or Swim challenges players to roll dice to score combinations that allow them to collect seashells. Whoever has the most shells at the end of the game wins.
• Dip, whose game Doubloon Dippidy is a fast-paced player in which participants try to win all the gold doubloons.
• Pearl, whose game Bed of Pearls has players rolling dice to build points to use for trading for pearls, the largest horde of which wins the game.
Each game retails for $19.95.
In addition to Steve Hart, FunHub Creative’s slate of former Front Porch Classics staffers includes Brian Compton, Jim Dixon and Karen Donahue.
