LOS ANGELES—Classic children’s book series The Berenstain Bears is coming to the big screen in a deal between rights watchdog Corus Entertainment and producers Walden Media and 21 Laps.
Walden Media promises a family comedy featuring live action film mixed with computer generated characters.
“This feature film will be a fitting tribute to the Berenstain family who decades ago created what has become a truly classic property, etched in the hearts and minds of children and their families the world over,” said Doug Murphy, President of Nelvana and General Manager of Corus Kids. “We are excited to be involved in this collaborative project which will see the delightful and entertaining tales of the Bears finally hit the big screen.”
Published by HarperCollins Children’s Books, more than 260 million Berenstain Bears books have been sold since the characters’ creation in 1962. Corus' Nelvana division produces the property's TV adaptation.
A release date for the feature film was not announced.
