Burns spark Easy-Bake Oven recall

By Staff -- Gifts and Dec, February 6, 2007

WASHINGTON—Hasbro is recalling approximately 985,000 Easy-Bake Ovens because of reports of children getting their hands caught in them, some incidents of which led to the children receiving burns.

Hasbro announced the voluntary recall today in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The toymaker is asking consumers to immediately take the recalled oven away from children under 8 years of age and contact the firm for a retrofit kit. Hasbro has received 29 reports of children getting their hands or fingers caught in the oven’s opening, including five reports of burns.

The version of the Easy-Bake Oven recalled is a purple and pink plastic oven that resembles a kitchen range with four burners on top and a front-loading oven. It is model number 65805. The recall only applies to those toys sold from May 2006 to February 2007.

Consumers should contact Hasbro at (800) 601-8418 to receive a free retrofit kit with consumer warning.

The openings are so few and small so your kid won't stuff his sister's Barbie in there and bake it......

Actually, the particular model that is being recalled has only one
opening...different from the other models where the pan enters one
side and exits the other.

My daughter received this for Christmas, she is 10. I have trouble
understanding how a child's fingers can get stuck if they are using the
tools that came with the oven appropriately-my daughters fingers
never come anywhere near the inside of the oven. I do however, not
allow her to use it unless I am there watching since her younger
brother likes to help her bake. Even though she knows the safety rules
of the oven, there is nothing like added adult supervision.

That being said, we will of course get the retro fit kit for added safety.

These ovens are a waste of money. It is very hard to get the cake out of the oven. You have to push with one end and pull with the other, but you only get one scooper equipment!
