Toys 'R' Us touts Christmas in July sale

By Staff -- Gifts and Dec, July 10, 2009

ActivisionWAYNE, N.J.—Toys “R” Us will launch a week-long “Christmas in July” sale later this month.

Running from Sunday, July 19 through Saturday, July 25, Toys “R” Us stores nationwide and Toysrus.com will provide parents with the opportunity to find “affordable and fun gifts at prices usually expected during the holiday shopping season.”

Discounts will include $100 off the suggested retail price of Play Along’s Hannah Montana Malibu Beach House, an offer that lowers the toy’s price to $79.99; $90 off the price off the normally $189.99 Guitar Hero: World Tour Super Bundle for Wii or Xbox 360 from Activision (pictured), an offer than also includes a free $10 gift card; and 50 percent off products such as Hasbro’s Star Wars Clone Wars Republic AT-TE and its Martian Matter Alien Maker Spaceship, Spin Master’s Pixos 3D Kit; and select Milton Bradley games, among other specials.

On the sale’s final day, TRU stores will hold a two hour holiday-themed in-store event during which children will be able to make their own Christmas cards, play games, color and receive a candy cane. Parents will be offered special one-day deals throughout the day.

The promotion will be supported with in-store signage and newspaper circulars featuring a vacationing Santa, dressed for the summer and relaxing under a palm tree.

Glad to see someone using the word Christmas in their promotions. When we get past Thanksgiving, most of the advertising is directed to the generic, flaccid Happy Holidays, instead of the standard Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We buy only from stores that use the Christmas theme rather than the generics. We don't shop Kroger's, Old Navy, Kohl's that don't use Christmas. Good going Toys R Us, we will see you next week and during the Christmas season.
