Monday Night Dancing
March 14, 2008
I am excited! Are you excited? Monday night begins the new season of “Dancing With the Stars.” I admit it, I am addicted to the show. It is the only thing that I have programmed my VCR to tape, just in case I get delayed at the office and may get home late. I try not to miss it.
I think that it is such fun to see how these celebrities start out as rank beginners and improve (or not) as the weeks go on. And I like to cheer on my favorite pros (some of whom I know from sharing the floor with them and their students at dance competitions) as well as my favorite celebs. It is such pure and simple, good old-fashioned live entertainment; anything can happen, and sometimes does as we have seen — fainting spells, costume malfunctions, missed steps, surprise kisses and falls. There are no “do overs.”
I also try not to miss the show because I have a “date” with my friend Nancy (my BFF). It started during the first season of the show; she called me up during a commercial break. “So, what did you think?” she asked. “How do you think they did? What kind of a Foxtrot (waltz, samba, whatever) was that!?! Who are you going to vote for?”
Since then, it has become our regular “thing.” We call each other up during commercials, compare notes and critique the dancers. (Nancy, by the way, does not live anywhere near me and is not a dancer, but has learned enough about ballroom from watching me and others at competitions. She has developed a pretty good eye!) It makes it a fun way to share, since we can’t get together to watch, but you should see our phone bills! But hey, you can’t put a price on friendship and Nancy and I have been friends for a very long time.
So come Monday, we will once again be burning up the phone lines, commenting, critiquing, sharing and gossiping while watching “Dancing With the Stars” Live! Join us.
