Juggling Act
May 3, 2007
I haven’t made much more progress in my office spring cleaning efforts. The nature of things is that as soon as an area gets cleared up, something new comes in to take its space. And that’s one of the things happening here; boxes (some very large boxes) of samples are arriving for a photo shoot that is imminent, and of course there is always the daily delivery of mail.
But the main reason is that those “few balls juggling in the air” that make “life ecstatically delightful” (at least according to that all-knowing horoscope mentioned in my previous post!) need attending to. As much as I might want to keep the cleaning momentum going, work/duty calls — like interviews for the feature story that I am writing for the magazine (that’s one ball, or is it two? interviewing, writing…?), the Retailer Excellence Awards competition entries that I am processing and setting up to be judged (that’s another ball), the National Stationery Show and summer gift shows for which I am making plans (another ball or two), staff meetings, correspondence … you get my drift. Life would be so much simpler if we could do just one thing at a time, start to finish and then move on. But that’s not to be, each ball needs attention before being tossed back up in the air while another one is caught.
Nevertheless, it gave me great pleasure when our art director Miguel came into my office and exclaimed about how he could actually sit down in the guest chair. I guess that is progress.
Next I have to look into Feng Shui. One reader (thank you, Gina) suggested that it might help bring a little order into my workspace.
