All About Me?
April 9, 2007
Welcome to my little corner of the cyber-world and the first of many postings to come!
When the idea of blogging was first broached around here, I have to admit, I was resistant. I didn’t “get” it — “get” the whole idea of blogging and what I perceived as a public platform of vanity. But knowing that before too long to resist would be futile, I began giving it some thought. At about that same time a press kit (one of many that I receive on a regular basis) crossed my desk. It was from a delightful personalized stationery vendor, Verbatem. Inside, along with the company bio and line sheets was the sample shown here of one of the company’s original designs.
It caught my attention. The “It’s all about me!” part got me to thinking. Was it a sign? Was I meant to do this blogging thing? Maybe, but even though I may be “fabulous” (not really, even though notecard says so), it’s not … it can’t really all about me. That’s not the point. The point is: it’s really all about you. It’s about bringing to you the stories, observations and occurrences that we don’t normally get to report. These are the interesting sidelights that present a more personal picture of this industry, the elements that make it more a community of people rather than a just a marketplace of product.
But, enough about you … back to me. You came here today to find out why this blog is entitled “Dancer in the Aisles.” The title references and binds together the two sides of me: the personal and the professional. On the personal side, it refers to when I aspire to be and even at times am “fabulous.” In my off-time, I am an amateur ballroom dancer, one who participates in dance competitions for the fun and the challenge. I do it for my physical and mental well-being. It fulfills my little girl Cinderella complex of dressing up and going to the ball, so to speak (oh, those fabulous dresses!). The “aisles” part of course, refers to my professional self and the aisles of the trade shows we all attend.
So there you have it! Now you know that when you see me at a gift show, I may look as if I am walking the aisles, but in my mind, I’m really waltzing my way through the show. That’s all for now, but log in again in two weeks for my next posting.
