My Bad
February 3, 2008
Some of my more loyal readers have been heckling me about something that I myself have been feeling guilty about – not keeping up with fresh postings. “I went to your blog. How can I read the latest, if you haven’t updated anything!” complained one disgruntled reader. My bad, and I apologize.
When I embarked upon this venture, it seemed a simple matter to write something a couple of times a week in my own personal voice. But when you write and report for a living, adding one more writing assignment to the weekly “To do” list is not as simple as it seemed to be at first. And it becomes even more complex to fit it when we hit the road for all the gift shows. Between feature stories, show previews and market runups, Product Wires, market reports, attending to email and all the other equally important matters that need to be attended to, this is the one thing that seems to be put most on the back burner. It’s not for lack of subject matter, that’s for sure. I can find things to chat about.
But getting behind on blogging is partly a matter of perhaps misplaced priorities. Since blogging is a personal assignment (from a certain standpoint), I forget that there are those of you out there who are reading this, until someone sends me a message scolding me for not updating the material with something fresh.
And part of the difficulty comes from the difference in writing style. Here, I write in a more relaxed tone, a more personal “voice,” in a more conversational manner. I find that to shift between this and my business writing is a bit too jarring unless I have some time and space between the two, something which isn’t as easily accomplished during the busy workday, and something that I am less inclined to do during my off time. For one thing, that mens lugging the laptop home. (I don’thave a computer at home. Surprise!) At one time, I had a bank of pieces written and ready to post in case I got bogged down with other things, but I lost those when my laptop was stolen when I was on the road at market during the summer, and I haven’t had a chance since to replace them or get back on track.
So, to those of you who reminded me that this blog is important too, thank you. This “fabulous, though slightly imperfect” self, resolves to do better. You are important to me and I appreciate your support.
