Weighing in on Webkinz

While I was busy reconnecting with my college classmates at Reunion, Patrice Pallone commented about my Webkinz blog. I find her comments doubly interesting because she responded both as a retailer and as a consumer, a grandparent. Thank you, Patrice, for your insightful comments. Are her experiences unique? I doubt it.
I went shopping while I was in Saratoga for the reunion; it’s kind of like taking a “busman’s holiday,” but we like to visit gift stores when we travel, to meet some of our readers face-to-face, see the businesses that we write for first-hand and get a sense of how stores differ regionally as well as just store to store. In two stores that I visited, the topic of Webkinz came up. One retailer was trying get them in and wanted to know if she was too late for this since she won’t get her shipment until July; the other retailer was doing quite well with them, had recently gotten a shipment and only had a few of the same character left in stock. Not having seen Patrice’s comments yet, I didn’t know to ask any of the retailers about shipping delays of other Ganz product.
