Shopping Shock
June 14, 2007

I went into Lord & Taylor the other evening to return a dress that I had just recently bought. Though I probably shouldn’t have been, I was shocked when I stepped through the doors! Why? All the mannequins and racks are already displaying fall fashions! The fur coats are already out and ready for sale, too. Here it is just the middle of June, the weather here is still very changeable (cool one day, hot the next), I haven’t fully finished changing over my closets from winter to summer wardrobe, and apparel retailing is trying to convince me to start purchasing a new fall/winter wardrobe? What is wrong with this picture? I am still looking for items to update my summer wardrobe — shorts, blouses, swimsuit, and yes, a dress or two. Lucky for me, those items are beginning to go on sale. No wonder major retailers are having a hard go of it these days. It seems to me that they are out of step with seasonal buying patterns. Or is it just me?
