Why doesn’t the Licensing Show Occur during Toy Fair?

March 17, 2009

Last week I wrote about a possible future in which Toy Fair will become a Play Fair in which many segments of the play industry will come together under one roof at one time for a mega show. Following up on this idea, my last posting talked about moving the Engage! Virtual World’s Expo so that it coincides with Toy Fair.

Today, I want to talk about doing the same thing with the Licensing show. Here is why:

  • The toy industry is an enormous user and purveyor of licenses.
  • Many of the same companies attend both shows.
  • Going to multiple shows means multiple financial and time costs.
  • Being under one roof at one time will lead to more deals being done and more cross pollination of ideas.

In short, by having both shows in one place at one time, we will all be richer for it both in terms of dollars saved and in dollars generated. Let’s start the process of breaking old barriers and getting the full potential out of our industries at the lowest possible cost.
