More from Hong Kong: Toy industry retailers and manufacturers are upbeat
I have had a chance to talk to a number of people here in Hong Kong (sales reps, retailers, manufacturers, etc.) and in general the mood is surprisingly upbeat. I am hearing that the year was either up or even with last year.
It seems that store inventories are in great shape and that buyers need goods. In fact, one rep told me that they met with a retailer who actually reported that they didn’t have enough merchandise over Christmas. When was the last time you heard a comment like that?
Another individual I spoke with added that there is a great hunger from buyers for new products. This is again a very positive sign as it shows a willingness to engage in some risk taking.
Based upon these comments plus reports of increases in traditional toy sales in 2009, I believe we are looking at the potential for a strong 2010. Keep your fingers crossed.
