The Top 10 Christmas Toys for 2009; How Wall Street Sees It: Part 1

December 17, 2009

Every year there are numerous lists of the Christmas season’s top 10 toys.   Most of these lists are prepared by various retailers and publications. My eye was caught, however, by a top 10 list compiled by Gerrick Johnson, who follows the toy industry for BMO Capital Markets, a financial investment firm.

A financial advisor is not interested in pleasing advertisers or increasing sales. They look at the bottom line and what is going to move the stock market. Accordingly, I was intrigued by what Gerrick was seeing. So, here is his list:

1) Zhu Zhu Pets (Cepia, Private)

2) LEGO (LEGO, Private)

3) Bakugan (Spin Master, Private)

4) Moxie Girlz (MGA Entertainment, Private) & Liv (Spin Master, Private

5) Mindflex (Mattel, MAT)

6) Nerf Blasters (Hasbro, HAS

7) Toy Story (Mattel, MAT/ Thinkway, Private)

8) Printies (Techno Source, Private

9) Tag Jr. (LeapFrog, LF)

10) Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Figures (JAKKS Pacific, JAKK

In my next blog, I am going to give you my take on the list. In the mean time, what is yours?
