A brain surgeon and a rocket scientist walk into a toy store...

December 22, 2009

Any of us who have had to put a toy together know how challenging the experience can be.  Is it just us?  Are we just incompetent ?  Is it hard for anyone; even a rocket scientist and a brain surgeon?

Good Morning America decided to find out by asking an actual rocket scientist and brain surgeon to put together, on air, a Techno Gears Mega Marble Mania which has over 400 pieces.

Unfortuantely for us, they accomplished the task, so we all have to accept the fact that we are, indeed, incompetant.  Both did, however, find it challenging and the brain surgeon did caution that if you make a mistake in the beginning you have to go back and start over.

It was a very cute piece but “Some Assembly Required” is a phrase that is becoming more and more a part of the after purchase experience. How many parents dread the need to spend time and emotion on the frustrating experience of putting a toy together with instructions that are either unintelligible or just way too complex?

Watch the piece and you will note that while it is funny it is also filled with sarcasm. We need, as an industry, to do a much better job of providing an after purchase/pre-play experience. The natives are getting restless
